Seer Medical named recipient of Minnesota Governor’s International Trade Award

Australian medical technology company Seer Medical was announced today as the recipient of the 37th Annual Governor’s International Trade Award for Foreign Direct Investment by the Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and the Minnesota Trade Office.

Seer is making healthcare more equitable, scalable and accessible through home clinical monitoring. Partnering with neurology leaders, Seer is transforming epilepsy care—from delivering exceptional patient experience to relieving capacity bottlenecks and streamlining clinical workflows.

The award recognises foreign-owned companies that have made significant economic contributions through their investments in the state of Minnesota. Following long-term research collaboration with Mayo Clinic experts, and Seer’s participation in the Mayo Clinic Platform_Accelerate program in 2022, Seer has established its first US premises in Rochester, Minnesota.

During a ceremony held in Minneapolis Minnesota, Seer CEO & Co-Founder Dr Dean Freestone and US GM & VP Chad Wilke accepted the award on Seer’s behalf.

“It is an honor to receive this award in recognition of Seer’s contribution to the State of Minnesota,” said Dr Dean Freestone, Seer CEO & Co-Founder. “Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2017, Seer was born out of research and clinical collaborations between the University of Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. Our vision is to make world-class healthcare accessible, affordable and delivered in the home.”

“In Australia today, Seer is the leader in epilepsy monitoring and management. Epilepsy is one of the most common serious neurological conditions, affecting more than 3.4 million Americans, with more than 150,000 people in the United States diagnosed each year,” said Dr Freestone. “After receiving FDA clearance for use of our multi-day video-EEG-ECG brain and heart monitoring technology, we are poised to transform epilepsy care in America too.”

“Rochester, Minnesota provides a wonderful springboard from which to grow our operations and bring faster, more accurate epilepsy diagnosis and management to millions of Americans. In the US, currently around 40,000 people per year receive multi-day long-term brain and heart monitoring, but around one million per year would greatly benefit from it. This is a huge unmet need that Seer can help to address from its base in Rochester.”
